Major Catherine Grizzle hails from Springfield

VA. She commissioned as a Field Artillery (FA) Officer from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) Reserve Officer Training Corps in 2014.

After graduating in the top 15% of the FA Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC) and earning designation as a Joint Fires Observer (L7)

she was assigned to Fort Bliss

TX

with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (2BCT). There

she served in the 1st Battalion

37th Armor Regiment (1-37 AR) as a Fire Support Officer

and in the 4th Battalion

27th Field Artillery Regiment (4-27 FA)

Charlie Battery

as a Fire Direction Officer

Platoon Leader

and Executive Officer. While in 2BCT

Catherine participated in Network Integration Experiment (NIE) 16.1 and 16.2

the Maneuver and Fires Integrated Experiment (MFIX)

and the Army Warfighting Assessments (AWA).

From 2017 to 2018

she deployed to Camp Manion at Al Taqaddum Air Base

Iraq

where she served as acting commander of a Paladin unit in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. She also served as the Battalion Logistics Officer (S4) at Camp Buehring

Kuwait

in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

After completing the FA Captains Career Course and earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Catherine was assigned to the 428th Field Artillery Brigade (428 FAB). She served in the 1st Battalion

30th Field Artillery Regiment (1-30 FA) as a commandant-select FA BOLC Gunnery Instructor

teaching three sections with a 100% pass rate during the COVID-19 pandemic and producing two International Distinguished Honor Graduates. She then served as Battery Commander for Alpha Battery

2nd Battalion

2nd Field Artillery Regiment (2-2 FAR

"Big Deuce!"). In 2021

Catherine was selected as a finalist for the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award and served as a U.S. Senate Youth Program (USSYP) Military Mentor during Washington Week 2022 (virtual).

Following battery command

she earned a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development. She was again selected as a USSYP Military Mentor for Washington Week 2024 and as Senior Military Mentor for 2025 (in person).

In her spare time

Catherine performs as a stand-up comic

sketch comedian

and improviser. She has appeared at the DC Improv

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

and in various commercials and industrial films.
