
CSM Scott Brinson enlisted as a Heavy Weapons Infantryman in the United States Army on 16 June 1998, in Salisbury, NC. He attended basic and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, GA. Upon graduation of OSUT and the Basic Airborne Course in October 1998, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC.
His last assignment was as the United States Military Academy (USMA) G3/5/7 SGM. Before arriving at West Point, he served as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of 2nd Battalion, 5th Security Force Assistance Brigade and the CSM of 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment prior to that assignment. Before graduating from USASMA in 2017, he was assigned as the Operations Sergeant Major for the 2-501st Parachute Infantry Regiment.
His assignments include 2-504 PIR Fort Bragg, NC, Task Force 2, Joint Readiness Training Center Operations Group Fort Polk, La., 3-73 CAV (ABN) (RSTA) Fort Bragg, NC, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Daytona Beach, Fl., and 2-501st PIR Fort Bragg, NC. He has also served three tours in Iraq (OIF I, OIF IX/Operation New Dawn, Operation Inherent Resolve), two tours in Afghanistan (OEF II, OEF VI) and one tour in the INDOPACOM AOR with 5th Security Force Assistance Brigade. He has served in every leadership position in the Infantry from Team Leader through Command Sergeant Major.
His military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic NCO Course, Maneuver Advanced NCO Course, Airborne School, Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course, Sling Load Inspectors Course, Master Resiliency Trainers Course, Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor Course, SHARP Course, Instructor Trainers Course, Jump Master School, Battle Staff Course, Combat Advisor Training Course, SFA Foreign Weapons Course, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, Advanced Situational Awareness Course, and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 67.
