I reported to West Point 18 days after graduating high school in Fresno, California. In 1996, I commissioned into the Field Artillery and served in Colorado, South Korea, and Iraq. I had the privilege of returning to West Point as a philosophy instructor and fell in love with teaching and with military ethics. I then served in Iraq again, in Kansas, again in South Korea, and in Illinois.
After completing a PhD, I rejoined West Point's philosophy faculty and took back up teaching cadets, collaborating with teammates, and stewarding the Army profession. I am now a member of the civilian faculty at West Point, focused on the development of good character among the cadets.
