Cadet candidates graduate from USMAPS, next stop USMA R-Day

The Class of 2023 Graduation and Commencement Ceremony for the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) took place May 13 at Eisenhower Hall at West Point, in front the USMAPS 31st Commandant Col. Rick Johnson, Command Sgt. Maj. Addley Saimbert, Academic Dean Melanie Wong Dodge, USMAPS leadership, family and friends. 

The U.S. Military Academy 61st Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steven W. Gilland served as the guest speaker. Thirty-nine of the USMAPS graduates are prior service Soldiers and 33 cadet candidates were named distinguished honor graduates, earning 3.5 or higher on their whole candidate score. 

Cadet Candidate Amy Elwell was awarded the Gen. Maxwell D. Taylor Award for being the top ranked Class of 2023 cadet candidate in the battalion. Elwell is a prior service active-duty cadet candidate and served with D Company, 1-52 Aviation Regiment from Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

The next venture for the USMAPS graduates is USMA Reception Day on June 26, and they along with the rest of the members of the incoming Class of 2027 start their journey at West Point.
