Celebrate the spirit of the season: Halloween activities at West Point

(Editor's note: Due to a small number of registrants, the Halloween Costume 5K Race has been cancelled on Oct. 30.)

In celebrating the spirit of the season, it’s time for Halloween activities at West Point beginning Oct. 24. It all starts with a Pumpkin Patch event from 1:30-4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at West Point Family Homes at 126 Washington Road. 

Following the Pumpkin Patch event, the Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation Outdoor Recreation presents Howl-O-Ween Yappy Hour from 4-6 p.m. at the Large Dog Park located across from Subway on Buckner Loop. Bring your furry friends in their best dress for MWR’s Howl-O-Ween costume contest. The winner will receive a special prize. There will be sweet treats and toys for your four-legged friend. There will also be beverages for sale during the event.

Halloween festivities get into full gear Wednesday, Oct. 30, with a number of events throughout the afternoon. It begins with a Trunk or Treat event from 2-4 p.m. at West Point Family Homes. 

Between 5:30-8 p.m., MWR, the West Point Military Police and Keller Army Community Hospital are hosting their Trunk or Treat and Haunted House. The Trunk or Treat is also located at the Buffalo Soldier Field parking lot. The Haunted House takes place inside Buffalo Soldier Pavilion at 628 Hodges Place. These events are free and open to everyone in the West Point community.

Volunteers are needed. If interested in being one of the Trunk or Treat vehicles, sign up via Webtrac or by calling 845-938-2503. Car setup time is between 3-5:30 p.m. MWR will be providing some candy for vehicles to distribute, but please bring some of your own to hand out. Car decorations and costumes are encouraged.

Compete to win the 2024 “Best Decorated Trunk” trophy. The crowd will be voting for their favorite vehicles, so bring your “A” game and best decorations. No registration is required to attend unless you want to volunteer to give away candy as one of the Trunk or Treat cars.

There will also be a Trunk or Treat event from 6-7:30 p.m. by H-Lot at the West Point Exchange. Volunteers are needed for this event. Sign up to be one of the Trunk or Treat cars by calling 845-938-2503.

Then on Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31, West Point will have trick-or-treating hours from 5:30-8 p.m. throughout the post housing areas.
