Dear West Point Community,

West Point is my home. It is where I learned what it meant to be an Army officer and leader of character and where I mentored and taught others to do the same. It is where I spent time growing my family and my world of friends. It is where I tested new ideas and had my ideas tested. I will forever cherish my times at West Point as a cadet, junior rotator, academy professor, department head and dean, and how these experiences have shaped me into the person I am today and will be in the days ahead.

Our cadets graduate and lead in military and civilian sectors with distinction and serve as leaders and mentors within their communities, armed with their critical- thinking skills and empathy developed throughout their West Point experience.

We teach cadets how to think, and we equip them with the tools for their future success in the military and beyond. Every member of our community — cadets, faculty, staff, coaches and families — plays an essential role in this process.

Our West Point community is vibrant and dynamic, and I have tremendously benefited from it as a cadet, instructor, parent and dean. Watching us come together during the pandemic was awe inspiring and reminded me once again of our greatest strength — people connected by our love for West Point and its mission.

My departure is bittersweet because although I will sorely miss West Point, I know that the academy and the academic program are in excellent hands with Brig. Gen. Shane Reeves.

A dedicated officer, scholar, athlete and community member, he will lead the academic program and guide the Academic Board into the future with energy, skill and integrity. Just as you have embraced and supported me, I know that you will do the same for him.

I will miss my walks across diagonal walk each morning and night, runs on the track, time in our classrooms, working with cadets, visiting with West Point family members, and learning from and with the incredible West Point faculty and staff each and every day.

I will always be gripping hands with you, even as I move on to the next step in my journey.
