As of 5 p.m. July 11, the only open route to/from West Point, indicated in green on this map, is via:
- I87 North or South to Exit 16
- NY 17 to US Route 6
- US Route 6 to 293
- Stay on 293 to Washington Gate
- Take 9W South to Stony Lonesome Gate
All other roads to the north and south of West Point are closed, or only intermittently open.
- Sections of 9W, RT 32, Palisades Interstate Parkway and Route 218 are currently closed due to storm damage.
- Route 9W was damaged by the storm, but the damage appears to be principally to the running surface and drainage rather than large-scale damage such as washouts or landslides. 9W is anticipated to be open with lane reductions northbound in two-or-three days and southbound in three-to-five days. Timelines will be clarified as the work progresses.
- Route 218 suffered severe damage in places and no timeline for restoration is possible at this time. Route 218 is not a critical route, so 9W and Route 32 are being prioritized above Route 218.
- Route 32 has been damaged but the damage is not severe. Evaluation is ongoing, particularly in the area of Trout Brook Road, but limited traffic may be possible as soon as the next two-to-three days.
- The abutment(s) of the bridge crossing Popolopen Creek on 9W between Fort Montgomery and the Bear Mountain Circle have been damaged but the bridge did not suffer a catastrophic failure. Senior Department of Transportation (DOT) personnel and engineers were on-site today (July 11) undertaking an evaluation and should have further information on a restoration timeline very soon. DOT acknowledges this critical link is a very-high priority.
- Palisades Interstate Parkway is anticipated to be reopened in two to three days, but the evaluation is ongoing.
