Cadet Selected For Knight-Hennessy Scholarship

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Stanford University recently announced that Cadet Eric Liu has been selected as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar, allowing for continued graduate study at Stanford University following graduation and commissioning on May 25.
“I’m proud of Eric’s accomplishments at the Academy and look forward to seeing his future impact as he leverages his knowledge in Decision Sciences and Chinese at Stanford and in the Army,” said Dean of the Academic Board Brig. Gen. Shane Reeves.
The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program, the largest fully endowed scholarship program in the world, is designed to build a multidisciplinary community of Stanford graduate students dedicated to finding creative solutions to the world's greatest challenges. The program annually identifies a group of up to 100 high-achieving students from around the world with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment to receive full funding to pursue a wide-ranging graduate education at Stanford, with the goal of developing a new generation of global leaders.
About the Scholar
Cadet Eric Liu, Class of 2024, is a Systems and Decision Sciences and Chinese double major from Princeton, New Jersey. At West Point, Liu focuses on China Studies and the US-China Great Power Competition. His past research projects include a linguistic analysis of Chinese Communist Party Discourse, a comparative analysis of the post-COVID19 public opinion between the US and China, a systematic breakdown of the US-China Space Race, and an analysis of Singapore’s military relationship with both China and the United States. Liu serves as the Third Regiment Assistant Operations Officer, where he assists the regimental commander with planning and executing training events within the regiment. He also represents West Point as the Cadet in Charge for the American Society of Engineering Management student chapter and a former exchange cadet to the United States Naval Academy. After completing a degree in East Asian Studies at Stanford University, Liu will serve as an infantry officer in the Army.
“The Knight-Hennessy Scholarship allows me to engage with global leaders across different academic discipline and degree levels,” said Cadet Liu. “The program’s focus on Independence of Thought, Purposeful Leadership, and Civic Mindset also transfers to leadership in the Army, giving me a unique experience to grow as a junior officer.
