Multi-Agency Force Protection Exercise Scheduled

By West Point Public Affairs

Date: Thursday, Apr 18, 2019 Time: 22:16 EST RELEASE NO: 12-19

WEST POINT, N.Y. – West Point will conduct an annual multi-agency force protection exercise on Wednesday, April 24.

The force protection exercise will create intermittent closures and delays throughout the day. Federal, state and local emergency vehicles will be participating in the exercise causing delays on surrounding roadways. Both residents, cadets, faculty, staff and guests should plan accordingly.

The exercise will test West Point’s ability to conduct multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional incident response and recovery in a full range of crisis possibilities. The scenario will incorporate elements of mass notification, active assailants, and personnel protective actions such as lockdown or evacuation, and mass casualty care.

This exercise will enable West Point leaders, first-responders, tenant organizations and off-post mutual aid partners to participate in an assessment of emergency preparedness procedures and capabilities in the context of a potentially tragic—and all too common phenomenon.

This exercise is intended to provide West Point emergency management officials with reliable and valid preparedness metrics from which response and recovery efforts can be improved.
