West Point Cadet Earns Esteemed British Scholarship

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Cadet Jesse Palmer, Class of 2019, has been selected to receive the esteemed Churchill Scholarship allowing for continued academic study following graduation and commissioning in May at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

The Churchill Scholarship provides funding to American students for a year of master’s study based at Churchill College. The program was set up at the request of Sir Winston Churchill in order to fulfill his vision of a US-UK scientific exchange with the goal of advancing science and technology on both sides of the Atlantic.

Born and raised in Plano, Texas, Palmer is a chemical engineering major at the U.S. Military Academy. Throughout his academic career, he has worked in the Multi-Functional Materials Laboratory at West Point where he has co-authored publications on his work with noble metal aerogels. He has collaborated with the Army Research Laboratories (ARL) in Adelphi, Maryland to produce first-stage biosensors and has developed novel Kevlar cellulose composites with Harvard’s Disease Biophysics Group.
