West Point Cadet Receives Prominent Fellowship
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Cadet David P. Mitchell, Class of 2019, has been awarded the prominent Anna Sobol Levy Scholarship allowing for continued academic study following graduation and commissioning in May at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy, and Strategy at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Israel.
The Foundation, established by Capt. Jerome E. Levy to honor the memory of his beloved mother in 1986, provides funding to U.S. college graduates for one year to earn a master’s degree. Levy hopes ASL fellows will enhance and strengthen the unique relationship between the U.S. and Israel by establishing genuine understanding and communication between future leaders of the two countries.
Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Mitchell is an international relations major at the U.S. Military Academy. His research interests include Middle Eastern politics with an emphasis on counter terrorism studies. He completed an internship in London to study the United Kingdom’s approach to countering homegrown Islamic terrorism. In May, Mitchell will commission as a military intelligence officer and attend ranger school in the 1st Armored Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas after completing his fellowship.
