The fourth edition of the Army-Navy Flyfishing Competition took place April 22 at Lusk Reservoir. Each team had five anglers fishing. The reservoir was split in half, with each team having its own half for 90 minutes and then switching halves for another 90 minutes.
Scoring was based on fish caught, regardless of size. Trout totaled five points, Bass scored three points and catching a Bluegill earned one point. The Cadet Fly Fishing Club team fished to a 77-43 win over Navy.
Army has won all four events in Fall ‘21, Spring ’22, Fall ’22 and Spring ’23. All cadets caught fish and four of five midshipmen caught fish. Class of 2024 Cadet Jack Hager was top angler with 22 points.
The rest of the Army team was Class of 2023 Cadets Cait Blevins and Kelly Kruger and Class of 2024 Cadets Charlie Barzyk and Colton Snodgrass in first half with Class of 2026 Cadet Nick Radtke in second half.
The teams enjoyed a picnic lunch together after the event. After eating, the USNA team went back to fishing until all their anglers caught fish and departed with all five midshipmen catching fish that day. There was great weather and great camaraderie during a great event. The Cadet Fly Fishing Club is grateful for all the support from the Directorate of Cadet Activities (DCA), volunteering staff and faculty, and external supporters of the club.
