The Holy Grail of sports trophies spent the day at the U.S. Military Academy as the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights came to West Point with the Stanley Cup on Jan. 24.

2016 Distinguished Graduate Award recipient and owner of the Golden Knights Bill Foley, USMA 1967 graduate, the players and management of the Vegas organization all spent the day at West Point.

The highlight of the day involved Phil Pritchard, the Keeper of the Cup, unloading the Stanley Cup from its case and carrying it to the poop deck in the Cadet Mess Hall. From the poop deck, Foley briefly addressed the Corps of Cadets as Vegas captain Mark Stone lifted the Cup for the whole Corps to view. The Corps of Cadets were enthusiastic with raucous cheers at seeing the shiny chalice.

The Cup then headed to the Regimental Room where both the Vegas team and the Army West Point hockey team ate lunch together and took a group photo with the prized trophy. Afterward, members of the Corps of Cadets and West Point employees had a chance to get their photo taken with the Cup.
