Center Ben Gaucher and defenseman Chris Tamer each had a goal and an assist as West Point Men’s Club Hockey defeated Boston University, 4-3, on Sept. 28 at Foxboro Sports Center in Massachusetts. The Black Knights then improved to 3-0 on the season on Sept. 29 with an 8-3 triumph at Bryant University in Walpole, Massachusetts.
Gaucher, who had two goals in Army’s season-opening 5-3 win against Marist College on Sept. 22, was again the hero for the Black Knights. Against BU, the 6-foot-3 senior redirected Tamer’s shot from the point with just 1:28 remaining in regulation for the game winner. He also redirected a shot from the point on Sunday for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
“You can’t complain about coming away with two wins on the road, but we definitely aren’t satisfied,” senior defenseman and team captain Anthony Chambers said. “There are a lot of things to work on but it’s early in the season and we are still figuring out how to play our game for a complete 60 minutes. However, I’m proud of the way the boys battled and stuck up for one another.”
Sophomores Liam Monahan and Jackson Siddall shared weekend goaltending duties, with Monahan getting the big win at BU.
“It’s great to see Siddall get his first collegiate win. He and Mono are a phenomenal one-two punch between the pipes,” Chambers said.
Junior defenseman Bobby Staring led the way offensively against Bryant with four points, including two goals, and junior winger Charlie Aronov had three points
West Point returns to the Boston area on Oct. 5 for a rematch with 2022-23 national champion UMass-Amherst. The teams split against each other last season, with Army downing the Minutemen at the Northwest Regional to advance for the program’s first trip to nationals.
