The U.S. Military Academy hosted the 62nd annual Conference of Service Academy Superintendents (COSAS) from April 2-5 to enable constructive collaboration and shared understanding of operational and strategic challenges common to the five service academy programs. Leadership from the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy attended the four-day COSAS event at West Point.
The annual meeting of the superintendents is hosted by the academies on a rotating basis and includes the commandants, the deans, the directors of Admissions and Athletics, and others designated by the superintendents. The attendees discuss performance measures and other matters of collective interest. The attendees also identify plans to address areas requiring corrective action. Following the meeting, the host superintendent provides the Under Secretary of Defense, Manpower and Reserve Affairs (USDM&RA) a summary of issues and actions discussed, and each service academy provides an assessment of their respective academy.
USMA executed an open discussion about topics of common interest regarding developing leaders of character that serve our nation. The conference provided a comfortable atmosphere conducive to an open exchange of ideas, enhanced the social and working relationships among academy leaders, provided attendees an overview of West Point, its facilities, its people, the Hudson Valley, and highlighted USMA as the world’s pre-eminent leadership institution.
