Systems Design & Analysis Center

About the Center
The mission of the Systems Design and Analysis Center (SDAC) at the United States Military Academy is to focus high-quality research, information dissemination, and professional practice on the design and analysis of next-generation, complex, large-scale, interdisciplinary systems in the national defense operating environment while serving as a vibrant hub for cadet and faculty intellectual development.
Vision
The SDAC serves as a nationally-recognized Systems Engineering Education Research Center at West Point. Coordinates and resources engaged scholarship opportunities for Cadets in the Systems Engineering and Engineering Management disciplines. Connects US Army, DoD, academia, and industry partners to provide solutions to problems of national and global significance.

Engaged Scholarship Opportunities

Academic Individual Advanced Development
Cadets work with partners across industry, the Department of Defense, and academia. AIADs often provide opportunities to familiarize cadets with problems that can become follow-on research projects.

Independent Studies
Cadets work with a faculty member for one semester to continue research initiated during AIADs or explore other topics of interest. The program culminates in a scientific paper, presentation, or research proposal, allowing students to demonstrate their findings and contributions.

Capstone Projects
Teams of 4-5 cadets work with a faculty member for two semesters to solve real, complex problems faced by their research sponsor. The capstone research culminates at the General Donald R. Keith Memorial Capstone Conference held at West Point each spring.

Capstone Conference
Cadets present research, share their work with professionals and peers, and, as an SISE regional conference, gain opportunities for peer-reviewed publication, culminating in an awards banquet.
