About CEE Internships
Engineering majors participate in Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIAD) internships every summer. These academic enrichment programs involve working within military units, governmental agencies, and private companies in the U.S. and elsewhere. Cadets work alongside world-class professional engineers and researchers, gaining invaluable knowledge and insight into the facilities, methods, and procedures used to design, test, and improve engineering systems. These experiences allow them to apply what is learned in the classroom to real-life research and engineering projects. The typical internship lasts 3-4 weeks.
Examples of CEE Internships
A 3-week experience to explore the fundamentals of potable water reuse processes. The AIAD is centered on the use of hands-on laboratory activities to understand, analyze, operate, and design engineering-scale unit processes for water reuse. Hands-on learning is also aided by theoretical lessons. This approach will equip students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on capability on state-of-the-art technologies to solve the water resiliency challenge.
Sponsored by USACE & ERDC and carried out in partnership with the University of Arizona.
Intern on construction sites, acting as a Project Engineer/Assistant Project Manager for a private sector construction company. Examples of past partners include Turner Construction, Yates Construction, The Beck Group, and Keller Moretrench.
3-week internship with a USACE District.
• Assistant Project Manager, Quality Assurance, Design Management
• Structural, Geotechnical, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering
• Learn about future opportunities after graduation
• Interact with USACE and local civilian governmental leadership
Take part in hands-on construction activities! Conduct surveying, use heavy construction equipment, build construction projects. Also provides 3.0 credit hours as a civil engineering elective!
Past Internships

Work with USACE to work on impactful projects, like the rebuilding of a bridge on the Appalachian Trail.

Learn about wastewater treatment processes and how we use microorganisms to help protect human health and the environment!

Work with the Field Engineering and Readiness Laboratory (FERL) on projects designed to emphasize practical application of engineering skills learned in class.
Interested Cadets
Engineering majors may apply for internships during the summer before their 1st or 2nd class year. A briefing will take place in January to provide details and a list of approved internships for the upcoming summer. The process to indicate preferences will be publicized in late January. Selected cadets will be notified in the weeks after selections close.
