WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Army Women's Rugby celebrated Senior Day for their Class of 2025 on Sept. 8 as they welcomed the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers to the Anderson Rugby Complex. The Black Knights struck twice in the first five minutes of action and did not relent until the final whistle to secure their first win of the 2024-25 season with a 78-0 final score.
The bright Sunday afternoon set the stage for the Black Knights' first home game of the 2024-25 season. Army kicked off the matchup and did not relinquish control of the match for the ensuing 80 minutes of action.
Katelyn Woenker opened up the scoring in Sunday's contest just two minutes into the action, breaking through the Mountaineers' line to slam a try down only a few yards away from the posts. Alissa Eisenhart completed on the conversion and the Black Knights took a 7-0 lead.
Only two minutes later, Army's squad found the try zone again as Yesenia Morales made a breakaway run from the Black Knights' defensive end all the way down the field to score a try between the posts.
Eisenhart added to the Black Knights' tally at the 12-minute mark as she launched a penalty kick through the posts from 20 yards out to take Army up 15-0.
Play held near midfield for the next 10 minutes until Cecelia Ollis found the try zone for Army in the 31st minute of play, setting off the Black Knights' offense late in the first half as Chloe De Leon notched tries in the 33rd and 37th minutes and Alyssa Davis closed out the first half with a try in the 40th minute.
After the 10-minute halftime break, the Black Knights jumped right back on the offensive as senior Winter Favre broke through Mount St. Mary's defensive line to log a try between the posts and, coupled with Eisenhart's complete conversion, pushed the Black Knights up to a 42-0 lead only five minutes after the return to action.
Eisenhart then notched a try of her own at the 50-minute mark and completed the conversion for a 49-0 Black Knights lead.
De Leon powered through the line to her third try of the match only two minutes after Eisenhart, who completed the conversion and pushed Army past the 50-point threshold.
Prop Stevie-Rae Ricklick recorded a pair of back-to-back tries in the 56th and 63rd minutes with Eisenhart completing her fifth conversion of the match after Ricklick's first try.
The Black Knights continued to power through the Mountaineers with Morales adding a second try to Army's tally with just 13 minutes left on the clock.
The Black Knights held strong through the final minutes of play as Ollis made her way back into the try-zone with only eight minutes left in the action to bring Army up to a 78-0 lead as the final whistle blew.
Coach's Corner
"I'm happy that we played some really good rugby here on Senior Day," Head Coach Bill LeClerc commented. "I'm happy that we played such a good game here at Anderson [Rugby Complex] and that the girls got to play so well in front of their parents so they could see what all of our hard work is for."
"Today was great," LeClerc concluded. "Now, we'll get back to work on Tuesday and get ready for Davenport, which will be a whole other challenge."
