CEE Prospective Rotating Military Faculty

CEE Prospective Rotating Military Faculty

Join the Civil & Environmental Engineering Team

Thank you for your interest in joining the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)!

Each year, the department selects branch-qualified officers, typically captains or lieutenant colonels, to pursue graduate degrees. Selectees will earn either a master's degree (two-year program) or a doctoral degree (three-year program) in either civil or environmental engineering from a civilian graduate program. They then PCS to West Point to serve as CEE faculty for three years.

As instructors in two nationally ranked undergraduate engineering programs, our officers teach, perform professional service, conduct scholarly research and outreach to the Army, participate in the mentorship of cadets - both in and beyond the classroom - and further contribute to the development of fellow faculty members. An assignment to USMA provides a challenging and rewarding developmental experience.

If you are a military officer seeking a rotating faculty position within CEE, use the link for TEACH to initiate your application and begin the process of joining the team.

What Would I Be Teaching?

The department continually seeks talented faculty who are experts in the disciplines that comprise CEE majors - Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering - and are committed to enhancing the education and development of cadets. You will teach subject matter related to those disciplines, both to cadets majoring in the CEE department and non-engineers outside the department who select either the Infrastructure or Environmental Core Engineering Sequence.

What are Some Opportunities to Advance in My Career?

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a robust selection of research, scholarship, collaboration, and professional development opportunities to help its faculty remain at the forefront of their disciplines.

Research may be done in conjunction with cadet capstone or independent study projects, and opportunities exist for working alongside USMA faculty from within and beyond the department. Experience gained teaching at West Point has served the CEE past faculty well as they’ve continued to compete well for promotions, commands, and key developmental assignments after leaving the academy.

Other Opportunities

It takes a team to ensure that USMA can fulfill its mission to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets. Roles exist for military and civilian faculty to teach cadets and further ensure that systems and processes are in place to sustain the efficient operation of a college campus and military installation.
